Turkey to start rebuilding southeast with 10 billion lira investment

Turkey to start rebuilding southeast with 10 billion lira investmentTurkey is planning to invest 10 billion lira ($3.4 billion) for reconstruction in damaged areas of Kurdish southeast, where heavy fighting between militants and the state took place, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on Sunday.

The area was hit by a two-year conflict between the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and the state.

Previously the government has estimated that nearly 6,000 buildings were destroyed in security operations. The cost of replacing was up to 1 billion lira ($345 million).

"We are investing 10 billion lira," Yildirim said in a speech in Diyarbakir, the region's largest city. "Instead of houses destroyed by the PKK we are building beautiful houses."

Houses, mosques and hospitals will be built in seven provincial centers across the southeast, he said.
