Italy's Renzi gives a promise to rebuild devastated communitiesItaly will spend millions of euros of funding to rebuild devastated areas after the earthquake and enforce protection of country's buildings and infrastructure from natural disasters, Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said on Thursday.

Matteo Renzi authorised special measures includes €50 million of crisis funds for the affected areas close to Rome devastated by the tremors and waves of about 1,000 aftershocks. PM also offered to cancel taxes for residents.

"We must think of the reconstruction. We have a moral commitment with the men and women of those communities," Renzi said.

"Reconstruction is the priority of our government and of our country," he added.

The number of dead after the earthquake hit Italy on Wednesday now comes to 267, other 365 people are injured.

“We owe it to the history of those towns that they must have a future and not remain just a memory,” Renzi told reports.
