The bus with accredited journalists was heading from the Basketball venue to the Main Olympic park at Barra da Tijuca when gunshots were heard blowing away windows, according to the witnesses.
Passengers said two shots hit the vehicle causing flying glass that left two people with minor laceration.
It is reported that the vehicle could possible be hit by stones.
The Rio Olympics spokesperson Mario Andrade said: “We don’t know yet if it was stones or bullets. The police are investigating.”
The Press Association photographer David Davies said: “There was kind of a popping noise and something hit two windows on the side of the bus and left two holemarks, which looked like bullet holes.”
The cause of the incident remains unknown.
Earlier, the police seized a presumably last member of the criminal gang suspected in preparing the terror attacks at the Rio Olympic Games.
