Syrian group wants to exchange bodies of Russian crew for prisonersThe bodies of five people shot down in a Russian helicopter should be exchanged for prisoners in Syrian jails, a Syrian group said on Thursday.

On Monday Russian military helicopter was downed in Syria's rebel-held Idlib province, all five people on the board were found dead.

The demand was made in a statement, signed off by a group calling itself the General Foundation for Prisoners' Affairs, Reuters reports.

The people they wanted to release are imprisoned in Syrian government jails and by Damascus's Lebanese Shi'ite ally Hezbollah in Lebanon. It is not clear how many prisoners they want to trade and who they were.

Also some identity cards belonging which are believed to belong to plane crash victims were shown in a statement.

Russian defense ministry confirmed on Monday it was a Mi-8 military transport helicopter which had been shot down after delivering humanitarian aid to the city of Aleppo as it made its way back to Russia's main air base in the western province of Latakia.

Russia and Syria did not make any immediate comment on the demand.
