Russia’s poverty-stricken teachers and university lecturers have been advised by the prime minister to moonlight to supplement their incomes or leave the education system altogether.
“Every person chooses what is important for them in life,” Dmitry Medvedev told an education forum in the southeastern province of Dagestan. “I’m absolutely certain that modern, energetic lecturers are able to earn not only their salaries, but also . . . somehow earn something else.”
Dagestani lecturers complained to Mr Medvedev at the forum that many of them received a mere 10,000-15,000 roubles (£113-£169) a month.
“This is your personal choice,” Mr Medvedev countered.… He said that enthusiastic teacher could find a way to make money, probably starts business.
This occasion has already become an internet mem while users compare the situation to Breaking bad TV show. The main character turned to a life of crime, producing and selling crystallized methamphetamine to secure his family's financial future.
