A patient with a gun killed a doctor  in BerlinA patient shot at a doctor in a university clinic in southwest Berlin on Tuesday before shooting himself dead, German police said.

The incident took place at a clinic at Charité University's Benjamin Franklin campus, located in the Steglitz district, in the city's southwest.

Police later confirmed on Twitter that a patient shot at the doctor and then turned the gun on himself.

According to the police, the doctor sustained life-threatening injuries and was treated in intensive care. Later it was reported that the doctor died. There are unconfirmed reports from Bild that the doctor was a senior dental surgeon.

A spokesperson for the Benjamin Franklin campus of the hospital where the shooting took place also confirmed that a patient shot a doctor before committing suicide.

Authorities also said there are no signs that the shooting was an act of terrorism. There is also no immediate information on the reason of such violence.

The gunfire was heard at around 1 p.m. local time. An anti-terrorist unit is at the scene, and the main building has been evacuated, according to the reporters.

The incident follows four other attacks in Germany since July 18 that have left 10 people dead and dozens injured.
