An unidentified man attacked passengers on a train between Würzburg-Heidingsfeld and Ochsenfurt in southern Germany, according to local media reports.
The attacker was a 17-year-old Afghan man armed with an axe and a knife, according to Joachim Herrmann, the Bavarian interior minister.
The criminal was shot by police; his status is not yet known.
Four passengers were injured, three of them seriously, according to Deutsche Presse-Agentur and Der Spiegel.
