Ukraine become even less attractive for international investments

Ukraine become even less attractive for international investmentsUkraine lost 41 positions in the global index of investment attractiveness of BDO International Business Compass (IBC), which is formed by the Hamburg World Economy Institute (HWWI) together with the German auditing company BDO AG.

In the 2016 ranking by the overall index Ukraine has placed on 130 spot in compare with 89th place in 2015. These results are mainly coursed by the political crisis and events in the eastern part of the country.

This year Ukrainian neighbors in the list are Algeria (129) and Iraq (130).

The overall ranking of the International Business Compass remained largely stable in 2016. There were slight shifts at the top of the rankings; having spent years in second and third place, Hong Kong now holds first place. Switzerland fell from first place in the previous year to fourth place, although its decline was only slight in absolute index values. The Netherlands was able to break into the top three for the first time following significant gains. Likewise, Ireland and Australia both made it into the top 10, Ireland having experienced exceptionally positive developments.

The changes compared to the index in the previous year greatly reflect the global developments that took place in 2014. In particular, this period saw the events in Ukraine and the emergence of the so-called Islamic State. As a result, Ukraine is the big loser in the ranking. Still the last 147th place in the list belongs to North Korea.

The BDO International Business Compass measure the attractiveness of a country as a multi-dimensional concept in three dimensions: the economic, politico-legal and socio-cultural conditions. The appeal of a country is associated with its level of development.

The study includes 174 countries in 17 regions on all continents.
