Ukrainian military
found and defused over 40 mines during the resettlement of their front lines near Mariinka as Joint Forces Operation Headquarters reported.
During the examination of the origin of the dangerous findings by the specialists, it was established that the anti-personnel mines were produced not in Ukraine; they were with the marking of another state.
“It should be noted that according to Ottawa Convention, the use of the anti-personnel mines as one of the means of war is prohibited,” the message said.

Ukraine had the fifth-largest arsenal of anti-personnel mines in the world (after China, Russia, U.S. and Pakistan). In 2005, the Ukrainian parliament ratified Ottawa Convention. This treaty aims to stop the use of the anti-personnel mines in the armed fight. The last such mine was eliminated in 2003 in Donetsk region.
Russia is not a member of Ottawa Convention.
As we reported 833 civilians suffered from mines since the beginning of the hostilities in the Donbas conflict zone.
