U.S. to provide about $700 million of aid to Ukraine in 2019

The U.S. will provide the financial aid in the sum of $695 million to Ukraine for different programs in 2019 financial year as Interfax-Ukraine reported citing John Schutte U.S. Embassy Counselor for Economic Affairs.
“During the 2019 financial year, which ends on September 30, the U.S. will provide over $695 million to Ukraine.  This aid finances a wide range of the programs in such spheres as security and defense, anti-corruption and political reforms, economic growth, reforms of the energy sector, occupational safety and humanitarian aid,” the message said.

It is reported that the U.S. Congress will define the future level of the aid and kinds of financed programs.
Schutte also reported that the U.S. is ready to help Ukraine to prepare for the possible cut off of the gas transit in 2020 by Russia: “The Ukrainian companies should assume measure for the purchase and storage of the gas during the winter”.
He noted the number of important reforms in the energy sector of the state.
“Thanks to the reforms of corporate governance, Naftogaz is the main contributor to the state budget. But the further reforms are needed for the provision of the real competition, increasing of the transparency, reduction of the oligarch power and increase of the efficiency in the energy sector,” Schutte noted.

He added that the U.S. and other donors are ready to support the Ukrainian government in the proper efforts.
As we reported Germany allocated technical and financial support in the amount of 82 million euros to Ukraine.
