Putin facilitates procedure of obtaining Russian citizenship for Luhansk, Donetsk republics

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin
signed a decree, which facilitates the procedure of obtaining the Russian citizenship for the residents of the occupied regions of Donetsk and Luhansk (ORDLO), as Kremlin’s press office reported.
According to the document, the application for Russia’s citizenship which ORDLO residents file should be considered within three months.

The document also reads that the residents of separated districts of Donbas have a right to file the application under a simplified procedure. One has to file an application, provide an ID document, and documents on the change of name, another citizenship, marriage or divorce, childbirth.
Russian Internal Ministry will adopt the decision-making procedure in this regard.
The decree comes into force since its official publication.

As it was reported, Russia wanted to facilitate the process of obtaining Russian citizenship for the residents of the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics after presidential elections in Ukraine. Putin’s decree was required for that.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Temporarily Occupied Territories and IDPs reported that people who get Russian passports will lose their Ukrainian citizenship.
