U.S. launches Antares rocket developed by Ukrainian enterprises

The Antares launch system with Cygnus spaceship started from Wallops spaceport, Virginia on April 17, 11:46 p.m. at Kyiv time as NASA reported on Twitter.

CygnusThe launch took place properly; the first stage separated in three minutes after the start.
Cygnus cargo ship will deliver about 3,5 tons of cargo to the station, including the equipment for the research and food.

According to the plans of the flight, the docking of Cygnus and International Space Station should take place on April 19.
Antares is rocket of the American Orbital ATK Company (Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems). It is used for the launch of the Cygnus cargo to the International Space Station following NASA programs.
Antares’ height is 230-242,5 meters, its diameter is 3,9 meters, the mass of the empty rocket is 20,6 tons, while the equipped one weights 263 tons. It can bring up to 6,5 tons of the cargo and the cost of the launch is up to $85 million.
The main construction of the bus, without engine, developed by the Ukrainian Construction Bureau Yuzhne and produced at Yuzhmash in the cooperation with Khartron-ARKOS (Kharkiv), Kyivprylad (Kyiv), Khartron-YUKOM (Zaporizhia), CHEZARA and RAPID (Chernihiv).

On November 12, 2017, the carrier rocket Antares was successfully launched from the U.S. spaceport
. It was developed and created in Ukraine. The construction of the first stage of the carrier rocket was designed by the Ukrainian state enterprise Yuzhne and produced by YuzhMash.
Besides, the European small-lift launch vehicle Vega successfully put two satellites into orbit from the Guiana Space Center. Liquid propellant rocket engine RD-843 of the 4th stage of the launch vehicle was worked out by the Ukrainian M.K. Yangel State Design Office Yuzhne and produced by the A.M. Makarov Southern Machine-Building Plant.
