Another attempt to seize the temple of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) by representatives of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) was made in the Vinnytsia region. This is reported by Strana with reference to the press service of the UOC Vinnytsia Diocese.
According to the report, on the evening of March 15, supporters of the UOC poured locks on the doors of the Spaso-Preobrazhenska Church with resin to prevent the Divine Liturgy scheduled for Saturday morning. However, the parishioners broke locks and spent the whole night in the building.
On Saturday morning, the UOC supporters closed the parishioners of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church inside the temple and blocked the entrance to prevent the holding of the service. The standoff lasted more than four hours, people to defend the temple. Archbishop Varsonofiy, together with hundreds of believers in the village, performed a liturgy.
Earlier three people tried to set fire to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate in Zaporizhya, reports UNN, citing its own sources in law enforcement agencies.
According to the message, an extraordinary event occurred the day before. Two men and a woman climbed over the wall of the church and, with the help of an improvised torch and inflammable substance, wanted to set fire to the temple premises. However, they did not succeed, because the law enforcement officers arrived at the scene of the incident on time.
On this fact, criminal proceedings are open and an investigation is underway under art. 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - a terrorist attack.
Policemen suggest that the detainees tried not only to burn the temple, but also to kindle inter-religious enmity.
Since the beginning of February, this is the third attempt to set fire to churches in Zaporizhya. The first one occurred on February 6. On February 11, the attackers again tried to set fire to one of the temples and drew a swastika on its wall.
