Russian Yevgeny Kalinin, the former executive director of “VETEK” Company owned by Serhiy Kurchenko, who was arrested in Greece on February 28 on the request of Ukraine, was released as RIA News reported.
According to his lawyer Yannis Rakhiotis, the Russian departed to Moscow on March 6.
“Kalinin was released on the evening of Wednesday and has already departed to Moscow,” he said.

Rakhiotis also stated that Kalinin, arrested in Athens Airport when he attempted to leave Greece for a short business trip, was released according to the decision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Athens Appeal Court.
“The proper decision pointed that he was arrested and detained by mistake as there was no acting international arrest warrant toward him. The release took place after the visit of Russia’s Prosecutor General Yury Chaika to Justice Minister of Greece and Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court,” Rakhiotis noted.
According to the lawyer, Kalinin departed to Russia “accompanied by the diplomats from the Russian Embassy in Athens along with his family, which came to Greece to support him”.

According to the information on the website of the Ministry of Interim Affairs, the National Police Department in Odesa region put Kalinin into a wanted list in 2017.
As we reported earlier, The Prosecutor General’s Office summons Ukraine's oligarch Serhiy Kurchenko for the interrogation. The criminal proceeding investigates the foundation of a criminal organization dealing with the large-scale embezzlement, as well as the legalization of illegally obtained income and tax evasion.
Fugitive ex-Minister of Revenue and Duties of Ukraine Oleksandr Klymenko and Serhiy Kurchenko caused $7.43 billion losses to Ukraine. Serhiy Kurchenko left for Russia after Euromaidan events.

The Ukrainian authorities have blocked the assets of oligarch Kurchenko, who is on the international wanted list.
Serhiy Kurchenko filed a lawsuit against Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko for slander about his ties with Mikheil Saakashvili.
