The European Parliament Committee on Transport and Tourism approved the proposal to end seasonal change of time in the EU, as the website of the European Parliament reported.
23 MPs voted “for”, 11 – “against”. Now, the European Parliament and EU member states will express their opinion in this regard.
According to the draft report, 2021 might become the last year of seasonal change of time in the EU.
“The Transport Committee proposes that the clock change on the last Sunday in March 2021. Member states that prefer to keep their standard time, also known as ‘winter time’, could change the clocks for the last time on the last Sunday in October 2021,” the message reads.

Some issues in the transport sector regarding seasonal change of time remain unsettled. Next time the transport ministers of the EU member states will meet in June.
As it was reported, Jean-Claude Juncker, the President of the European Commission, stated that the EU intended to cancel transition to “summer” and “winter” time.
Earlier Finland claimed to strive for the cancelation of the daylight saving time in the EU when 70, 000 Finish citizens signed a proper petition.
The first switch from the standard to daylight saving time took place in 1908 in the UK. It happened with the purpose of energy saving. At the moment, the switch to the standard and daylight saving time exists in 100 countries.
