The termination of the treaty with Russia on the cooperation in the use of the Sea of Azov by Ukraine will harm the whole international navigation as TASS reported citing Russia's Deputy Transport Minister and Head of Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport  Yuriy Tsvetskov.
“The termination will push our back; the legal vacuum will exist, which does not meet the interests of the people, first of all, users, seafarers, not only Russian or Ukrainian; it concerns the whole international navigation. If it is terminated, it will become the severe blow from the side of our neighbors to the international navigation,” he noted.

In 2018 Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin stated that Ukraine prepares for the termination of the Azov Sea Treaty with Russia.
A few days ago he specified that it can take place in the foreseeable future, particularly, when Ukraine “will have completely spotted legal position and all issues on the international arbitrage will be solved.”
As we reported, Ukraine submitted its Memorial in Arbitration Proceedings against the Russian Federation under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea on February 19, 2018.
It is noted that since 2014, Russia “has unlawfully excluded Ukraine from exercising its maritime rights; it has exploited Ukraine’s sovereign resources for its own ends; and it has usurped Ukraine’s right to regulate within its own maritime areas. Through these violations of international law, Russia is stealing Ukraine’s energy and fisheries resources, harming the livelihoods of Ukrainian fishermen, and blocking traffic to Ukrainian ports with its illegal bridge over the Kerch Strait, among other serious violations”.

The incident with three Ukrainian vessels in the Sea of Azov on November 25, 2018, when the Russian border guarders seized the boats and the crews became one more reason for the discussion on the termination of treaty.
Moreover, on December 6, 2018, Ukraine’s Parliament adopted the presidential bill No. 0206 on termination of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership with Russia.
