Vietnamese woman escapes from detention at Narita airport

A 22-year-old Vietnamese woman escaped from Narita International Airport on Sunday after her entry into Japan had been delayed due to a problem with her visa for working as part of a trainee program.
According to immigration authorities, the woman first came to Japan as a trainee in April 2017. However, the woman’s term of employment had already ended, Fuji TV reported.
The woman had returned to Vietnam in January. She arrived back in Japan aboard a VietJet Air flight from Hanoi on Saturday morning and told immigration officials she was coming to Japan as a foreign trainee. But she was detained by immigration officials and spent Saturday night in a detention center in Terminal One while authorities tried to verify her status.
On Sunday morning, as she was being escorted to Terminal 2 by an employee hired by VietJet, she escaped from the terminal as soon as the man input the security code to open the door. She had no luggage with her when she fled.
