Obama and Putin decide to meet, if possible

Obama and Putin decide to meet, if possibleDecision could end isolation of Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

Obama will meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of a UN meeting in New York City next week. That's according to The New York Times, which on September 23 cities unnamed US administration officials saying that a time and a place for the meeting has not yet been scheduled.

The decision means a break from the administration's efforts to isolate Russia over its invasion of Ukraine early in 2014.

Russian diplomats had indicated for weeks that they wanted a meeting to discuss Russian participation in the international coalition against Islamic State militants in the Middle East.

The US and EU have imposed sanctions on Russia for its aggression against Ukraine, but have declined to give Ukraine weapons to defend against attacks.
