Ukraine occupies 84th place in Democracy Index 2018

Ukraine took the 84th place in the Democracy Index 2018 out of 167 countries of the world and the 17th place in Europe as The Economist reported.
The democracy rates of the country remained to be at the same level as in 2017 and make 5,69 points out of 10 possible. It is known that Ukraine is put on the list of countries, which has the hybrid regime of the governance. In other words, it has the authoritarian and democratic types of the governance.

The Economist got such results basing on the research of the governance in the countries according to five categories such as election process and pluralism, functioning of the government, participation in the political life, democratic political culture and civil freedoms.
It is known that the highest democratic rates of Ukraine were spotted in 2006-2008. Then Ukraine got 6,94 points and entered the list of the countries with flawed democracy. The lowest rates were spotted in 2014 and made 5,42 points.

According to The Economist, only 4,5% of people in the world live in the regime of full democracy. In comparison with 2017, the index of democracy decreased in 42 countries and increased in 48. All other states remained to be at the same places.
The most democratic countries in the world are Norway (9,87 points), Iceland (9,58), Sweden (9,39), New Zealand (9,26) and Denmark (9,22).

The last places occupied by Chad (1,61),  Central African Republic (1,52), Democratic Republic of the Congo (1,49), Syria (1,43) and North Korea (1,08).
As we reported Ukraine Ukraine improved its position in the passport rating for three points in 2018 and occupied the 41st place in the Henley & Partners Company list.
