Teacher referred to prosecutors after assaulting student at special needs school

A 59-year-old male teacher in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, has been referred to prosecutors after he allegedly assaulted a male student at a school for students with special needs by stomping on his legs. The suspect, whose name has not been released, was employed as a teacher at the Nagoya Municipal Tenpaku Special Needs School.
According to investigators, the teacher is suspected of physically assaulting the victim, who was a third-year high school student at the time, in November 2017, Fuji TV reported. Another student filmed the incident on a smartphone. It showed the teacher kicking and stomping on the student’s legs.
The Nagoya City Board of Education has also confirmed that between April 2017 and February 2018, the suspect verbally abused several other students by repeatedly calling them “pipsqueak” and “fat.”
During the school’s investigation, the teacher admitted to using both physical and verbal abuse against special needs students.
