Man gets 15 years in prison for fatally stabbing acquaintance

The Saitama District Court on Monday sentenced a 69-year-old man to 15 years in prison for fatally stabbing a 58-year-old acquaintance in front of his home in Niiza, Saitama Prefecture, in February.
The court ruled that Akio Takahashi, who lives in Inashiki, Ibaraki Prefecture, killed Yasuyuki Handa, a company employee whom he knew, due to financial trouble between them, Sankei Shimbun reported.
Handa was stabbed at around 7:50 p.m. on Feb 23. A neighbor heard two men having a loud argument on the street shortly before Handa was stabbed. Handa’s 21-year-old daughter called 119 to say that her father was lying on the ground outside their home. Handa was taken to hospital, bleeding from stab wounds to his neck and back, but died about an hour later.
Takahashi was found sleeping in his car at a port in Kamisu, Ibaraki Prefecture, at around 4:20 a.m. the next day. He had admitted to the charge when he was arrested. A knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was found at the scene, with Takahashi’s fingerprints on it.
Handa's family told police about the trouble he was having with Takahashi, prompting them to look for the suspect and his car.
