Patriarch Filaret, the Head of Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kyiv Patriarchate is ready to lead the United Local Orthodox Church if the Bishops Council will entrust him to do this as Ukrainian Radio reported.
Filaret could not answer the question who can compete with him at the election of the head of United Local Orthodox Church.
“Moscow does everything to destroy the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. So, I must work until the end to preserve the church. If the Bishops Council will entrust me to do this. If it will not, I evade the responsibility,” Filaret claimed.

According to the Patriarch, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew wants the Ukrainian Church to be headed by the Archbishop- Metropolitan, not the patriarch. At the same time, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church decided that for the external use, the head of it will possess the extended title. So, there are will both, extended title and shorter title for the inner use. The extended one – the Archbishop and Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Rus of Ukraine. The shorter is the Patriarch of Kyiv and All Rus of Ukraine.
On October 11, the Synod lifted the anathema from Filaret, the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyivan Patriarchate, and Makariy, the Primate of Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. Filaret stated that a united Jubilee Bishops' Council would take place soon to create a unified Ukrainian local church.

In addition, the Ecumenical Patriarchate recognized Russia’s Orthodox Church annexation of Kyiv metropole in 1686.
