Man arrested for attempted murder after stabbing co-worker

Police in Kanagawa Prefecture, said Thursday they have arrested a 61-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he stabbed a co-worker with a kitchen knife.
According to police, Junichi Mochizuki, a plumber, has admitted to stabbing Yuji Iwase, 53, at around 6:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Fuji TV reported. Mochizuki stabbed Iwase in the left abdomen while the two were seated in a parked truck on a street in Tsurumi Ward, Yokohama. Iwase was in the driver’s seat.
Police said Mochizuki and Iwase are employed by different companies. However, the day before the attack, Iwase, a 62-year-old male colleague and Mochizuki were working at the same site in Naka Ward.
Immediately after stabbing Iwase, Mochizuki pointed the knife at Iwase’s male colleague, prompting the man to flee to a nearby house and call for help.
Mochizuki was quoted by police as saying, “The day before, Iwase made fun of me and called me ‘a piece of garbage.’ I brought the kitchen knife from my home to kill him.”
Police said Iwase was in a stable condition in hospital on Thursday.
