National Police tells how new TruCam system works

National Police
The National Police presented new radars for speed control. TruCam radars will be working in a pilot mode on October 8-15 and the drivers-violators will not be fined. Since October 15, the violators will be punished, as Olexiy Biloshytsky, Deputy Head of Patrol Police Department, said, the National Police website reports.
“Prevention is the core of the work. Our task is to stimulate and encourage drivers to reduce speed, especially in places with a high level of car accidents with victims. Nobody will be fined during the pilot mode. We will stop a vehicle, warn the driver, as first of all, it’s driver’s life and the passengers’. The goal is prevention,” he said.

Later, the drivers will be fined.
“The procedure is standard: the vehicle is stopped, the driver is prosecuted. If the over speed is more than 20 km/h, the fine is $9,1, if it’s more than for 50 km/h - $18,2,” Biloshytsky said.
He noted that the police has 25 radars for now. The drivers were informed about the locations where the radars are installed earlier. In future, the number of the radars will be increased.

“There are safeties in the radars for possible abuses. The device has a special data encryption system. The inspector does not have access and cannot delete any moments by himself,” he stressed.
Reportedly, since October 8, Ukrainian police will be monitoring the road traffic in Kyiv and in many regions across the country, using the TruCam surveillance systems.
The TruCam devices will be set next to the road signs warning of photo and video recording of safety violations, on the certain sections of international highways and in the cities where the high level of road accident hazard is observed. Service transport vehicles with blue flash beacons will be there, too.
