The first in the world pioneering experimental satellite of the quantum communication was launched in China.

The satellite was launched to engineer the break-in proof communication system.

Beijing hopes the system will have applications in military and commercial spheres.

The 600kg satellite nickamed Micius after an ancient Chinese philosopher was launched at 1.40am local time on Tuesday.

Official news service of China- Xinhua reported: "The satellite’s two-year mission will be to develop ‘hack-proof’ quantum communications, allowing users to send messages securely and at speeds faster than light."

The Quantum Experiments at Space Scale is an ambitious space programme that shows China's potential to win a quantum satellite race, according to a professor and quantum physicist at the university of Geneva Nicolas Gisin, the Wall Street Journal.
