North Korea may send athletes to participate in 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang

Governments of South and North Korea discuss the option to let the North Korean athletes perform at
the]. The topic was among the most essential ones mentioned in the New Year speech delivered by Kom Jong-un, the North Korean leader.
Seoul and Pyongyang negotiate on the opportunity despite the fact the North Korean side missed the deadline to file the application for the Games, NBC Sports wrote

“The Winter Games to be held in South Korea will be a good occasion for the country. We sincerely hope that the Winter Olympics will be a success. We are ready to take various steps, including the dispatch of the delegation. To this end, the two Koreas can immediately meet,” Kim said as quoted by the news agency.
NBC added that South Korea praised such approach to the burning issue of bilateral relations between Seoul and Pyongyang.   

‘North Korea qualified its first athletes for PyeongChang in September — pairs figure skaters — but then missed a deadline to confirm use of those spots. The IOC could extend a special invitation to the pairs skaters — or North Korean athletes in other sports — to join the Olympic field,’ the outlet continued. NBC also quoted IOC head Thomas Bach who confirmed that in the interest of non-partisan approach, the Committee is ready to let North Korean athletes participate in this major event.
