The celebration is held annually on the last Sunday of August. Last year it was the 26 of August.  
Apart from Ukraine, the professional holiday is marked in Belarus, Russia, Estonia, and Kazakhstan. The holiday is associated with Alexey Stakhanov who set a record in the mining at night on August 31, 1935. It let to the beginning of the Stakhanov movement in the future.  

The Miner Day is marked according to the decree of President from August 16, 1993.  
It is noteworthy that the coal industry is common on the territory of Donbas, including, on the occupied its area. Also, along with the Miner Day, occupied Donetsk, Makiivka and the number of the other cities of the region mark the City Day. 

Reportedly, Ukraine celebrates a series of holidays from August 23 - Flag Day was marked on that day. The 27th Anniversary of the Ukrainian Independence Day was celebrated the next day.
