Fee-based lawyers of Viktor Yanukovych start a skirmish with police in the building of Obolon District Court of Kyiv, where the next court hearing in the case of treason against former Ukrainian President takes place today, on August 16. The 112 Ukraine TV channel broadcasts the court hearing.
The reason for the conflict is the denial of access of the Aver Lex lawyers to the court hearing. The latest have also made a stand against Yuriy Ryabovol, Yanukovych’s state attorney, and his participation in the court hearing. The security officers refused to let Vitaly Serdyuk and his colleagues into the courtroom, the mix-up with security officers and policemen began after that.

Vitaly Serdyuk promised to lodge a complaint with the police against the actions of court personnel.
However, after a short conflict, the paid lawyers of Yanukovych were let inside the courtroom.
Mykhailo Nikonov, the head of Obolon district police department participated in the scuffle.
"Unfortunately, the situation came that allegedly the lawyers of the defendant blocked access to the courtroom for the lawyer, appointed by the court. I.e. they resorted to illegal actions, resistance to implementation of justice. Earlier, the court ruled out the court order to provide access for the lawyer, which was performed. We carry out the order and will go on doing thus,” he stated.
After a 15 minute break, the court hearing goes on at the moment. The original language broadcast is available here.
The debates were planned during today’s court hearing.
Yanukovych is charged with state treason, assistance in deliberate actions against Ukraine’s state border, sovereignty and territorial integrity and assistance in leading the aggressive war against Ukraine.
