A tank car with nitric acid inside leaked at a highway, which led to pollution of a small area of ground in Dnipropetrovsk region, southeastern Ukraine. The press centre of the regional branch of the State Emergency Service reported this on Tuesday.
The rescue team got a call at about 4 p.m.; the caller said that an unknown substance leaks from the 35-meter-large tank car not far from Ivanivka village, which lies nearby.
The car carried 24 tons of nitric acid; as one of the car's units was damaged, it leaked four tons of acid, as the driver pumped the rest to the other unit. The acid covered and polluted the area of 40-45 square meters.
The crews are now neutralizing the impact of the pollution. No casualties have been reported, as of 7 p.m.
Earlier, Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine opened a criminal case under the article 'Ecocide' due to the decision of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) militants to stop the water pumping from the mine Yunkom in Bunhe in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region
