Balukh on 115th day of hunger strike, - Akhtem Chiygoz
Volodymyr Balukh, Ukrainian activist convicted in occupied Crimea, is still in a prison dorm at the Symferopol pretrial detention center. This affects his health due to his hunger strike, that lasts for more than 115 days.
Akhtem Chiygoz, a deputy chairman of the Mejlis, Crimean Tatar people Parliament, claimed this to Krym.Realii.
“He is now in a prison dorm with over 10 other prisoners, which is very hard for him – his routine activity suffers, which is significantly disturbing his rest. Taking into account his hunger strike, he is still on, he’d better stay in a more quiet surrounding. His medical condition remains extremely complicated,” Chiygoz said.
Volodymyr Balukh continues his termless hunger strike since March 19, 2018.

Volodymyr Balukh was sentenced to three years and seven months of colony settlement for allegedly illegal storage of ammunition. Human rights defenders think that he was repressed for pro-Ukrainian position in particular for the Ukrainian flag in his backyard. Later, the court reduced the sentence by two months by excluding the storage of ammunition from the incitement.
Balukh declared indefinite hunger strike protesting against the sentence.
On April 2, Olga Dinze, Volodymyr Balukh's attorney claimed that falsely detained was beaten up by the guard after the appeal. The administration of the detention facility refused to give Balukh water due to his proclamation of hunger strike. Volodymyr Chykryhyn, the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Crimean Human Rights Group claimed that doctors are not allowed to Balukh.

Balukh lost 30 kg because of the lasting hunger strike. It was claimed that the political prisoner switched to the dry hunger strike.
On July 5, 2018, Balukh was sentenced in Crimea to five years of the colony on the second case, being accused of alleged beating Valeriy Tkachenko, the chief of the temporary detention facility in Rozdolne village. Although, Balukh claimed that Tkachenko attacked him.
