Ukrainian dissident Levko Lukyanenko passed away

Former political prisoner, dissident and ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Levko Lukyanenko died on July 7 after a long illness. This was reported on Facebook by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman.

Earlier on July 7, former People's Deputy Volodymyr Yavorivsky said that Levko Lukyanenko is in intensive care.

Levko Lukyanenko is a dissident, co-founder of the Ukrainian Helsinki Group, People's Deputy of the four convocations of the Verkhovna Rada. He was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.

Lukyanenko was born on August 24, 1928 in the village of Khrypovka in the Chernihiv region. For underground anti-Soviet activities in May 1961 Lviv regional court sentenced Lukyanenko to death, but after 72 days the Supreme Court replaced the death penalty with 15 years imprisonment. He spent these years in Mordovia.
Earlier we reported that Ukraine is ready to consider the option of exchanging 13 Russians in addition to the previously voiced 23 names for Ukrainian political prisoners’ release. Iryna Herashchenko, the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament claimed this to journalists in the negotiations in Minsk as 112 Ukraine reports.
Kyrylo Vyshynsky, the head of Ria News Ukraine, previously captured by the security forces is among those who are to be conveyed to Russia.
“After the check I want to name persons, who Mrs. Moskalkova, the Russian ombudsman wanted to visit: Vyshynsky, Halychy, Dzhemiyev, Zhydkykh, Kamalov, Marchukov, Mikhalchevsky, Osminin, Saratov, Zenichak, Sukhanov, Shybaiev, Yurevych. They admitted that they have both Ukrainian and Russian citizenship, admitted the work with the aggressor state,’ Herashchenko said.
