The animosity towards the journalists and media rises in the world, including Europe according to 2018 World Press Freedom Index published on April 25 as DW reported. 

According to the index, at four of five countries where the situation with the press freedom deteriorated. Particularly, it takes place in Malta, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Serbia. One of the recent cases of the journalist’s murder was in Slovakia with Jan Kuciak investigative reporter.

Moreover, the populist politics and the leaders of some countries, for example, the Czech Republic, negatively influence the democracy and freedom of the journalism.

‘I think the developments in Central and Eastern Europe make it clear that we are dealing in many cases with not-yet-established democracies, whose EU membership may have come too early’, Christian Mihr, the head of the German branch of Reporters Without Borders said.
Also, Hungary is at risk as far as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban supports the pro-government titles and the spread of the country’s ideology.

Talking about other countries under the threat of the press freedom deterioration, China, Russia and the USA are also on this list.

As we reported Ukraine is placed 101st of 180 countries in the annual media freedom ranking composed by Reporters Without Borders. Compared with the 2017 ranking, this country appears to have progressed, but just a little bit - one rank up (in 2017, Ukraine was placed 102nd). The media freedom degree was estimated at the level of 33.19 points.
