Kyiv city hall bans travelling circuses with animals

The Kyiv city hall banned performances and entire activity of the traveling circuses with
animalsThe city administration stressed that circus owners and employees often violate animal welfare principles; cases of animal abuse are also reported. ‘Animal management in bonds can only be performed under permission issued by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. Kyiv’s state environment inspection regularly reports that circus administrations do not have such permissions. Besides, the law on protection of animals against violence forbids creating the mobile zoos and prohibits education with the use of violent methods,’ the message says.
On the same day, Kyiv city hall initiated the ban of tent circuses
across the city. Olesya Pynzenyk, MP of Kyiv city council, notes that ‘the conditions of animal management are unacceptable’. ‘They hurt and starve them; they often make the animals participate in cruel circus performances like jumping through the burning ring’.
The Ukrainian parliament approved the law against animnal abuse in summer 2017.
Kyiv is not the first Ukrainian city where such steps are made in order to protect the animals; earlier, a similar law was approved by the town hall of Cherkasy, central Ukraine.
