Court releases serial killer due to ‘grave threat’ to his life

life] in 2001, walks free. The man whom the court considered guilty in 13 crimes, including seven murders, was released on November 3; the court found out that Kaverzin’s health and life are in grave danger.
According to the web portal of Ukraine’s judiciary system
, it appeared that in 2001, the inmate suffered injuries, which resulted in complete sight loss. Kaverzin, who has badly impaired vision since childhood, managed to prove the connection of his sight loss and the damage he sustained in the police department upon detention.  
The ECHR, European Court for Human Rights, which considered the case ‘Kaverzin against Ukraine’ in 2012, ruled that the government must compensate Kaverzin EUR 40,000 for the injury, 20minut.ua reported.
Oleksandr Kaverzin was charged and judged for murder of seven people, three of them were policemen, as well as for banditism, robbery, illegal storage of firearms and infliction of grave bodily injuries.  

“They kept in fear Khmelnitsk region. Further Kaverzin made his trail of blood in other regions of Ukraine. He was hiding from the law enforcers more than 5 years. But nevertheless he was detained,” the outlet quotes Volodymyr Havrylyuk, former head of police in Khmelnitsk region.
According to the outlet, two men were killed during the raids of this kind in Kamianets-Podilsky. Kaverzin was put on the wanted list in 1996. Later Kaverzin killed homicide detectives in Khmelnitsk. Together with his crime partners Kaverzin assaulted a money changer in Mykolaiv. A district police officer was badly wounded while apprehending criminals.

Kaverzin was detained in 2001. According to him, police assaulted him and tortured, which became the reason for the catastrophic loss of his eyesight.
Kaverzin has lost his sight completely in the pre-trial detention center.
