Mural dedicated to 264th Pope John Paul II was opened in the Pechersk district of Kyiv, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

As noted the Ambassador of Poland to Ukraine Jan Peklo, who was present at the opening ceremony, the mural of John Paul II appeared in Kyiv symbolically.

"He was not only a Pole, he was the Pope, and the appearance of this mural in Kyiv is of symbolic significance. Things that he did for the world - not only for Poland or Ukraine - are impossible to comprehend by human's mind," he said.

Peklo claims that the pontiff always knew that Russia does not want Ukraine's rapprochement with the West.

"It is very important that the Pope knew about this and for that he came to Ukraine. We need to promote this space to the eastern border of Ukraine," the ambassador added.

We recall, a day before the opening of mural, unknown people left insulting inscriptions and Nazi symbols on the facade of the building.
