The Prime Minister of Moldova Pavel Filip commented on the participation of the Moldovan militaries in drills in Ukraine at the joint briefing with the Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman. He noted that Moldova is the parliamentarian republic and the duty of the government is the provision of the army’s efficiency as Interfax-Ukraine reported.
‘It is our inner issue and we will cope with it inside the country. First of all, some authorities forget that we ar the parliamentarian republic. And secondly, the government has a duty to provide the efficiency of the army’, he said.
According to Filip, this issue is discussed by the majority of the parliament.
‘I will never understand these internal issues when everyone knows that the non-participation of the army in different drills leads to the weakening of the army and then the question who is interested in it is raised. We will never allow this to happen’, he said.
Volodymyr Groysman noted that Ukraine supports the deepening of the cooperation between the Armed Forces of both countries.
‘We as the country absolutely support the deepening of the cooperation and interaction in the military sphere and cooperation of our armed forces’, he said.
Earlier, the Moldovan Government approved the decision that allows the militaries to participate in the drills.
The President of Moldova Igor Dodon prohibited the militaries to take part in the Rapid Trident-2017 drills in Ukraine. He stopped the work of the governmental resolution, insisting that the decision of the participation of the army in the drills beyond the country should be made by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces that is a president.
However, the Prime Minister Pavel Filip urged the parliamentarians to find the way to send the Moldovan contingent to the drills as NewsMaker reported. According to him, the undrilled army is not wanted by anyone’.
‘The visit for drills to Ukraine was canceled. Five visits were canceled the same way before. I think there are no grounds for such decision’, Filip claimed.
According to him, if the 80% of the participation in the drills is paid by the partners and organizers that the refusal to take part in the drills already costs about 280 000 of dollars for Moldova. The Prime Minister insisted to put the issue of the participation of the militaries in the drills to the order of the day.
Dodon ordered to check the military units of the National Army of Moldova due to the dispatch of the militaries to the international Rapid Trident-2017 military drills.
The Moldovan militaries arrived in Ukraine for the international Rapid Trident-2017 military drills on September 8.
