Ukrainian capital installs its record Christmas treeA 26 metres high Christmas tree is one meter higher than the tree erected last year.

Ukraine has its main Christmas tree raised at Sofiiska square in Kyiv.

The cost of the Carpathian spruce including delivery is about 47,000 hryvnas. The tree was brought from Vyshnevtsy village, Ivano-Frankivsk region, with a weight of 15 tons, a height of 26 metres.

The tree branches will be decorated with more than a thousand Yavorovsky toys, which are made of wood. From the very top, the tree will be decorated with garlands, total length of which is 3 kilometers, along with 42,000 of flashing lights.

The tree is being decorated from December 8th with 15 different types of decorations.

The official opening of the Christmas tree is planned for 19 December - the Day of Saint Mykolay.
