More than 700 journalists died over past decade, UNESCOOne journalist is being killed every five days as a result of their work.

UNESCO report released on the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists November 2, said nine out of ten cases the killers go unpunished.

It is reported, 94% of killed journalists are local and only 6% are foreign correspondents.

In 2012, the deadliest year for journalists, 123 cases of killings were condemned.

Last year became 2015 the second deadliest year in journalism in the past decade with 115 journalists murdered.

The UN body said it did not include the many more journalists who on a daily basis suffer from non-fatal attacks, including torture, enforced disappearances, arbitrary detention, intimidation and harassment in both conflict and non-conflict situations. Furthermore, there are specific risks faced by women journalists including sexual attacks.
