Kyiv mayor Vitaliy Klitschko has promised to make every effort for Babyn Yar Memorial center to be established in the Ukrainian capital by the 80th anniversary of the tragedy (in 2021).
This was stated by Klitschko during the signing ceremony of the Declaration on the creation of the memorial center Holocaust "Babyn Yar."
"Babyn Yar is a tragedy of world scale and we must do everything so that savagery does not happen ever again. There shall be no room for fascism and Nazism, racism and xenophobia," said Klitschko.
He noted that so far nothing has been done to create a memorial in Ukraine, and to perpetuate the memory of those killed 75 years ago.
"There must be a Memorial centre in Kyiv. We must do everything for the Memorial to be open by the 80th anniversary of the Baby Yar tragedy," said the mayor.
Klitschko said that the creation of the Memorial is a non-state project that anyone can contribute to.
According to him, there have already been many contributors to join the project.
