More CCTV cameras in the streets of Kyiv Two thousand cameras will be placed to tame a sprouting criminality by 2017, Vesti reports.

The surveillance cameras are envisaged to be installed within the confines of the “Safe capital” project, both in the downtown and on the outskirts of the city.

Roads, enters to hospitals, schools, childrengardens will be recorded in order to dwindle the crime rate.

One-hundred-fifty hijacked cars and 1000 thefts are recorded monthly, according to the police data.

However, the experts claim CCTV cameras are only capable to prevent individual thief but not the organized gangs. Unlike, middle-class cars, elite cars will still be at stake as they would normally be hijacked by organized and well-equipped groups.

Tenders on purchase will be invited in the next couple of weeks along with the system fully functioning in the beginning of 2017.

The project foresees the united analytical centre and will cost several tens of million hryvnas.
