Ukrainian Security Service caught Higher Economic Court Judge at taking bribeThe Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) have apprehended judge of the Higher Economic Court of Ukraine Viktor Shvets taking a bribe of $5,000. During the search of his residence, $300,000 and a Hungarian passport in his name were discovered, according to the SBU press centre.

"Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have recorded the judge in one of Kyiv's cafes when he was receiving a $5,000 bribe (this very moment - on image). Shvets demanded a total of $10,000 from a businessman for not impeding the work of his business. The judge is also suspected of faking the theft of his own luxury car to receive an insurance payment," the press centre said.

According to the press centre, during the searches in the office and in his place of residence, law enforcers seized nearly $300,000, loan notes worth a total of $475,000, jewellery and a passport of a citizen of Hungary issued in his name.

A pre-trial investigation has been launched under part 2 of Article 15, part 4 of Article 190 and part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

A day earlier, Head of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine (PGO) Yuriy Lutsenko personally delivered an indictment to Shvets. "On July 27 PGO Head Yuriy Lutsenko personally handed an indictment to Higher Economic Court Judge Viktor Shvets, who is suspected of committing acts in violation of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, namely Part 2 Article 15, Part 4 Article 190, Part 2 Article 28, Part 2 Article 383, Part 2 Article 384," the PGO's press service said.

The alleged crimes involve large-scale embezzlement with a group of individuals, providing misinformation to a court on the pretrial investigation of a crime, concocting evidence for personal gain with a group of individuals, as well as providing false testimony for personal gain.
