Torture, power abuse: Ukraine's Bureau of Investigation to check workers of Berdyansk colony

The  State Bureau of Investigation investigates
the possible cases of power abuse by the workers of Berdyansk colony №77, as the press service of the State Investigation Bureau reports.
The officers have launched the pre-trial investigation on claims of the representatives of NGO Alliance of Ukrainian Unity concerning possible abuses of power by the officers of the Berdyansk penalty colony №77.

Thus, the officers of the  State Bureau of Investigation have launched the pre-trial investigation on criminal violations under the articles 127 part 2 (torture by a group of persons), 365 part 2 (abuse of power or official authority by a law enforcement officer), 364 part 2 (abuse of power), 189 part 2 (extortion, repeated power abuse, or committed by a prior conspiracy by a group of persons, or using official position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on February 26, 2019.
The officers of the State Bureau of Investigation will check the messages of the complainants, who are being destined in the penal institution, regarding the particular persons.
Earlier, the prisoners of Arbuzynska colony in Mykolaiv region did not have access to fresh water, and the convicts were forced to use holes instead of toilets.
According to the report, despite the consistent examination, no medical treatment was provided. Besides, the prisoners practically have no opportunity to spend the means they get for their work within the colony’s territories.
At that time, there are 386 convicts serving their sentences.
