Carnival in Rio: City's central streets to be paralyzed for entire week

Daily Mail
The world-renowned Brazilian carnival is taking place in Rio de Janeiro, writes Reuters.
Road traffic in the city's central streets will be paralyzed for the entire week.
Twelve leading samba schools struggle for the victory in the contest, which is considered the main event of the carnival. Each team prepares a giant platform adorned by bright original decorations. Moving across the streets of Rio, they serve as a stage, where the dancers perform for 80 minutes every day.

The jury of 40 judges evaluate the performances of all teams, assessing the costume designs, the dances and the development of the carnival theme. The contest's results will be announced on the day when the carnival ends.
The city hall of Rio de Janeiro assumed that seven million people came to see the dancing procession; that, in particular, includes 1.5 million foreign tourists.
