On February 28, Yevgeny Kalinin was detained in the airport of Athens upon the request of Ukraine
, as the lawyer Yannis Rakhyotys told to the RIA Novosti.
According to the lawyer, the court ruled to put Kalinin into custody in anticipation of the Ukrainian request of the extradition on March 1. He insisted that the case was the political one, as Kalinin is on the Peacekeeper website list (Kyiv-based website that purports to reveal personal information of people who are considered to be "enemies of Ukraine," the website is condemned by numerous members of the world community) because he supported Ukraine's ex-president Viktor Yanukovych.

According to the information on the website of the Ministry of Interim Affairs, the National Police Department in Odesa region put Kalinin into a wanted list in 2017.
He is accused of tax evasion and creation of a criminal organization.
As we reported earlier, The Prosecutor General’s Office summons Ukraine's oligarch Serhiy Kurchenko for the interrogation. The criminal proceeding investigates the foundation of a criminal organization dealing with the large-scale embezzlement, as well as the legalization of illegally obtained income and tax evasion.
Fugitive ex-Minister of Revenue and Duties of Ukraine Oleksandr Klymenko and Serhiy Kurchenko caused $7.43 billion losses to Ukraine. Serhiy Kurchenko left for Russia after Euromaidan events.
The Ukrainian authorities have blocked the assets of oligarch Kurchenko, who is on the international wanted list.
Serhiy Kurchenko filed a lawsuit against Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko for slander about his ties with Mikheil Saakashvili.
