The Ukrainian-language books and brochures make almost 78% of the total amount at the bookshops, while the Russian-language materials make only 15%, as the presidential press service reported citing Petro Poroshenko.
“We have been always told that we cannot compete with the Russian bookshops. Finally, there are a lot of publications in the Ukrainian language at the Ukrainian bookshops. Why[/img]

The president reminded that the number of events aiming not only to the support of the Ukrainian products but also to the development, production of the Ukrainian-language printed, audio- and video-product take place. Particularly, the law on the implementation of the language quotas on the radio and TV has come into force.
“People say, what do you mean by quotas? There is the freedom of speech, freedom to speak in any language. It is the freedom to talk but the information space should be fulfilled by the Ukrainian language, my friends. Why? Because it is provided by the license. You do not want to? Go to Russia and speak Russian. Nobody forbids you to do it…

You can communicate in Romanian, Russian or Crimean Tatar language in your private life. I will welcome you if you speak English. But if you work in the public service, if you communicate in the mass media, then you should learn Ukrainian,” the president emphasized.
According to Poroshenko, the recent results of the monitoring show the increase of the amount of the Ukrainian-language messages and songs.

“I have already told that it is 55%. It makes only 48% at the regional radio stations but it will be improved. We will never return to the number 2013. It will never be so that the Ukrainian language makes only 5% (of “112” airtime) and the Russian makes 51%,” the president promised.
Moreover, the Ukrainian product has become more remarkable on TV. According to the monitoring of the airtime of the national broadcasters in 2018, the average share of the programs produced by Ukraine made 79%. The real share of the news in the state language at the local and regional level makes 99% and this number makes 100% in Volyn, Kirovohrad, Rivne, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, and Khmelnytsk regions.

Earlier we reported that it is still possible to tune in to Ukrainian radio on the territory of the Russian-annexed Crimea.
