Ukraine can rely on Canada's firm support. Kirsty Duncan, Canada's Minister of Sciences, Sports and People with Disabilities said that as quoted by Ukrinform news agency.
'We constantly support the people of Ukraine and Ukraine's territorial integrity, and we'll gladly keep on working with the Ukrainian colleagues, supporting partnership and friendship', Duncan said.
She stressed that the Ukrainian migrants 'did and still do a lot in all aspects of the Canadian society, its economic and political life'.
'Ukrainians played the major part in the Canadian democracy and we appreciate it', the minister said.
Earlier, the Consulate General of Ukraine was opened in Edmonton - the capital of the Canadian province of Alberta. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin took part in the opening event, the press service of the department reports.

"This is a solemn event, by which Ukraine recognizes the special role played by the Ukrainian community in the west of Canada, and opens the door for trade and investment contacts," the minister said.

After the opening ceremony, Pavlo Klimkin personally congratulated the first visitor of the consulate general - two-year-old Danil, who received a document on the acquisition of Ukrainian citizenship.

In the province of Alberta, there are more than 350,000 Canadians of Ukrainian descent. The newly formed Consulate General will work for other provinces of western Canada - Saskatchewan, British Columbia, as well as the Yukon and Northwest Territories.
