Georgia files lawsuit against Russia in ECHR

President of Georgia (press office)
The Justice Ministry of Georgia has filed the lawsuit against Russia to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) as the press service of the ministry reported.
Thus, according to the statement of the Georgian Justice Ministry, Russia exercise the real control over the territories of South Ossetia and Abkhazia so Moscow is responsible for the abduction and murder of the Georgian citizens at these territories.

Georgia accuses Russia of the violation of eight articles of the Convention on Human Rights.
The special attention was drawn to the death of the citizen of Georgia Archil Tatunashvili on February 23, 2018, in South Ossetia.

Georgian citizen Archil Tatunashvili was abducted by the occupation authorities of South Ossetia when he came to the home-village to the relatives. He was accused of “the subversive activity” and then he allegedly fell from the stairs during the transporting and died.
It is the third lawsuit of Georgia against Russia. The first one concerns the deportation of the Georgians from Russia in 2006. The decision was made in favor of Georgia. The second lawsuit concerned the armed conflict in August 2008. The decision on it is still not made.

Earlier Russian Federation was urged to refuse to recognize the so-called independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and to withdraw troops from the territory of Georgia, as Georgia Friends Group statement, dedicated to the 10th anniversary from the beginning of the Russian-Georgian conflict said.
