Russia's interference in US policy could have led to an aggravation of the situation during the protest in Charlottesville last year. This was announced by Republican Thomas Garrett, reports CNN.

"I was at a closed briefing session, maybe two months ago, on the situation in Charlottesville with the FBI director (Christopher Ray), among others, and asked whether somehow Russia's interference is related to aggravation in Charlottesville, - said According to him, Russia's interference consists in "inciting some Americans to enmity with other Americans in order to undermine the confidence of Western democracies."

We recall that the riots in the American city of Charlottesville last year began because of the intention of the authorities to remove a monument to General Robert Lee, who led the army of the Confederates during the Civil War in the United States in 1861-1865, from the city park. As a result of clashes between the participants of the March of United Rightists and their opponents, a girl was killed and 34 others were injured.

Trump said that he condemns "this blatant manifestation of hatred, fanaticism and violence on the part of many parties." Many American politicians have criticized the president for refusing to clearly condemn the ultra-right and nationalists, but declaring only "violence from many sides."
