Manafort assisted Poroshenko during presidential run in 2014, - Gates

Rick Gates, the ex-political consultant of Paul Manafort told the U.S. Federal Court that his former chief provided assistance to Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko during the presidential campaign in spring 2014.
'Gates switched from detailing the crimes the pair committed together to talking about wealthy Ukrainians. Specifically, those who paid Manafort for his campaign-consulting and policy work. After Manafort led the successful campaign of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych in 2010, Manafort signed a $4 million annual advisory agreement to help the administration translate campaign pledges into reality, Gates said', writes ViceNews.
According to BBC, Gates indicated that the former leader of Trump's electoral campaign continued to work in Ukraine even after Poroshenko's predecessor Viktor Yanukovych fled the country in early 2014 - after the victory of the Revolution of Dignity. Gates specified that Manafort was involved in both the presidential campaign and the local elections; however, he did not point out any conditions of that cooperation, nor the time period.

The presidential administration in Kyiv denied any cooperation with Manafort or any of his team. 'There were offers from other parties to cooperate, but they were not even considered', the official reply from Poroshenko's press office said.
Recently, Alexandria federal court (Virginia, U.S.) heard the testimony of Gates, who is considered the witness in the case where Manafort is charged with grave financial crimes, including tax evasions.
Earlier, we reported that Paul Manafort, the former counselor and the ex-leader of Donald Trump's election campaign, had more than 30 bank accounts in three countries across the globe. , commenting on the latest developments in his case.
This was necessary 'to “receive and hide” his income from Ukraine, a federal prosecutor said on Tuesday', the news agency wrote.
Manafort will remain in custody until the end of the hearings in his case, which kicked off today, August 1.
