A car explosion took the life of Aziz Asber, the man who chaired the chemical weapons plant
in Syria. He worked for the government of the incumbent leader Bahaar Al-Assad.
He deceased in the blast that thundered in Hama on late Saturday, The Guardian reports.
Anti-Assad forces claimed responsibility for the murder. 'The attack was claimed by a Syrian group affiliated with the Tahrir al-Sham rebels. It includes the group formerly known as the Nusra Front, which served as al-Qaida’s Syrian branch. The Abu Amara Brigades released a statement on their Telegram channel saying they had planted explosive devices that detonated and killed Asber,' the outlet wrote.
The U.S. intelligence data assumes that the facility headed by Aziz Asber produced sarin, used during the attack on Khan Shaykhun in Idlib province.
The Syrian conflict, which kicked off in 2011, claimed lives of some 350,000 people.
